Last week I gave the top three trends that I see getting the axe in 2023. This week I wanted to share three top trends that are currently gaining momentum and (more importantly!) will last for years to come. So many trends don’t last more than a season or two, so it’s great to see those that will!
Trend 1: Genuine Wood
The trend back to real wood has been growing for a while, and it’s really finding a toehold in 2023. Stunning mahogany, smooth teak, natural maple; all woods with a beautiful grain pattern. Gone are the whitewashed woods and the faux grains. These new wood looks are big and bold! PRO TIP: Another great trend is mixing woods. You no longer have to choose a single wood stain and stick with it! Natural wood colors and grains always complement each other with no limitations.
Trend 2: More Color
Color is IN! A refreshing change from whites and greys, interior designers are embracing color in a wide range of tones, all of which (coincidentally!) look great with natural wood. Think warm tones that are a few shades removed from primary colors. PRO TIP: Not ready to take on a ton of color just yet? Work with pops of bold color by repainting a nook, small piece of furniture or bring in a bright rug. As you get acclimated to it, you can always bring in more.
Trend 3: Black
I wanted to list this one separately as it’s my favorite of the new trends! When used correctly, black can be a stunning color. It’s deep, rich, warm and impactful – everything 2023 is looking for in colors. Black comes in a myriad of choices, too; dark charcoal, soft black and even dep, dark blue blacks. PRO TIP: Another popular variant on the trend is black accents; chair and table legs, black picture frames and vases, and even touches of black on stair treads and window trim.
BONUS TIP: A word on gold. Those of us who lived through the bright brass tones of the ‘90s have been hesitant to stray from silver and black hardware and light fixtures, but I think it’s safe to say that gold is a trend that will last. However, it MUST be either matte or a darker brass. I really don’t see shiny golden tones coming back any time soon. 🙂
