This time of year I think we are all looking for something soft, cozy and comforting. Here are a few ways to bring that feel into your home for winter (all without breaking the bank!):
Tip 1: Layers, Layers, Layers
Layers are an excellent way to bring a cozy element into your decor. Think throws on the arms of all the seating, extra pillows, even an extra shaggy rug or two. It’s all about texture here – I love chunky knits, fuzzy flannels, and silky soft real or faux furs. PRO TIP: Chunky old knit sweaters are awesome for adding both texture and a hygge style! I often see them made into fun pillows, and (an old florist trick) you can cut the sleeves off and stick cylinder vases inside for greenery. It’s such a cozy look!
Tip 2: Make it Green
As winter drags on, we naturally want to gravitate to greenery. Lean into that feeling by bringing in vases of greens, garlands and swags, wreaths and even houseplants. To help segue away from Christmas mix in leafy foliages that hold well, like eucalyptus and ruscus. PRO TIP: To get that trendy mixed look, opt for sturdy houseplants and add evergreens by poking their stems right into the dirt. Instant arrangement!
Tip 3: Dim the Lights
Winter is the perfect time to add a beautiful ambiance to your rooms! Candles and lamps are great, as are bistro lights and fairy lights. You can even bring in an extra natural element by wrapping a stick in white Christmas lights – so pretty! PRO TIP: If you have a harsh light, add a shade (or an extra layer of paper inside the existing shade). Instant dimmer!
