Every fall, top florists make their predictions for the upcoming Christmas decor trends. I always watch for these, because they are excellent barometers of the direction home decor is headed (even beyond the holiday season). It’s a great way to bring a fresh eye to your usual choices!
Christmas Decor Trend #1: Chroma Christmas
It’s so easy to think of Christmas in terms of red, green, white and metallic. With the increased interest in bright colors, I’m thrilled to see this segue into holiday decor! Bright, primary colors may not be typical choices for Christmas, but the jewel tones are stunning and can add so much to your existing decor. PRO TIP: Here’s another florist trick: when working with bright, primary colors, bring in turquoises, teals and blues with ribbons and trims. This allows other bright colors to be allocated to flowers and other elements. The result will be more natural and look effortless.
Christmas Decor Trend #2: Gilded Graphics
With so many patterns cropping up in the trends, I was hoping to see this one! It’s a fabulous juxtaposition between traditional metallics and bold, striking print. This is a stunning option for modern homes; it’s super elegant! PRO TIP: The secret to making this one work really well is choosing a single, bold pattern and replicating it – mixing too many patterns will get overly busy.
Christmas Decor Trend #3: Naturally Together
I love how the natural look is less about holiday decor and more about a seasonal extension of your home. It’s so effortless and homey! To make the most out of the natural look, work lots of foraged elements in, like sticks and pinecones. Finishing it off with dried fruits is a beautiful addition! PRO TIP: Pinecones can be full of creepy crawlies! Pop them in a 250° oven for about 30 minutes to kill off the bugaboos.
BONUS TIP: Whatever decor style you choose, get the most out of your look by wrapping a few empty boxes to match. You can put these “presents” under the tree and work them into your vignettes. This also helps the tree look less naked after Christmas day!
