One of the easiest ways to give your bathrooms a luxe look is to address the mirror. So many houses have that basic, oversized rectangle of a mirror affixed directly to the wall. I even see them in fancy houses! Spend an afternoon and give yours a makeover – it’s a great upgrade. đ Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Tip 1: Frame It
Sometimes the simple approach is best – just give that mirror a frame! You can just use new or recycled molding (I’ve even seen peel-n-stick options!). If you have space around the mirror you can attach the molding to the wall; if not, use liquid nails to attach directly to the mirror. PRO TIP: a fun option is to use thicker boards and mount them on their edges to make a box around the mirror. Now you have a “shadow box” with a shelf for decor! Just make sure your depth isn’t more than the reach of your vanity light, or your mirror will be in a shadow.
Tip 2: Replace It
There are so many fun mirrors out there – if you can get the one you have off the wall without too much damage, you can just swap it out. Be prepared with spackle and paint – contractors love to use lots of adhesive behind mirrors! PRO TIP: Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Depending on your style, you can hang a mirror from sliding barn door hardware, or lean a large fancy one up against the wall – no hanging required!
Tip 3: Layer It
I’ve seen some stunning bathrooms where smaller mirrors are simply hung over the top of the existing mirrors (thank goodness for command hooks!). It’s a great way to showcase a vintage mirror or one that may not be sizeable enough on its own. PRO TIP: Making a collage of mirrors and art over your large wall mirror is a trendy new take on the Bohemian layered look. Just choose one mirror to place at “face height” and group the other pieces around it. It’s a fun look!
