Spring is a great time to focus on small things that make a big impact. There are so many little ways to make your home look expensive – and you can do it on a budget! Here are three easy ways to make a splash without breaking the bank:
Idea 1: Upgrade your Lighting
Lighting is a great way to add visual value and really change up a space. It may be as simple are changing out bulbs, or bringing in some lamps, or my favorite – adding a chandelier. A hanging fixture is a fun way to upgrade a room, and it’s an easy change from a basic light (or you can add a new one). Many chandeliers come fitted with plugs or you can use battery lightbulbs. A great place to look for lighting on a budget is Habitat for Humanity; they always have a great selection. Pro Tip: If your lighting is looking a little dated, swap out the shades! A simple change from angled shades to a drum style will make a huge impact.
Idea 2: Add a large Mirror
Bringing a large mirror into your home is a simple trick that can make an entire room feel larger! Large mirrors are often available on Facebook Marketplace and thrift stores (again, Habitat for Humanity is a great place to check). And don’t worry if they don’t have frames; you can easily make one with molding. PRO TIP: Although the traditional large mirror walls have fallen out of vogue, mirrored tile walls are super popular and easy to make! You can go simple with just the tiles or frame them out with molding to make a larger installation. It’s easy on the budget and always looks great!
Idea 3: Change out the Hardware
This is an oldie but a goodie – nothing dates a space like old, builder-grade hardware. Make your home look instantly expensive by changing out those dated pieces! You can work a few pieces at a time to upgrade cabinetry, dressers, doors and other areas with old hardware. PRO TIP: Another thing that can really date furniture is the legs. Fortunately, they are easy to modernize with paint or a simple swap. Just check how they are attached, and find a new set of legs that attaches the same way (and if you can’t, often a small piece of 2×4 screwed into the bottom will bail you out). And don’t forget casters – those little wheels can make any piece of furniture look fabulous!
BONUS TIP: For a budget-friendly upgrade, look for big impact items like rugs, fresh bedspreads and fun, oversize art. You can often find these items on sale, and the look really pays off!
